Why McCanse Builders
The Complete Home
When we build a home for a client, it is completely done when they move in. Typically the final punch list will be less than five items requiring an hour or two to complete. All of the doors operate correctly, all of the nail holes are filled, and there are no air or water leaks. The house, including windows, will be clean.
With any new construction, as the house dries out and the lumber shrinks, some settling always occurs. This sometimes results in minor drywall cracks and a few nail pops. We come back immediately and resolve these issues to the satisfaction of our clients at no cost.
We have lived in this community most of our lives and our reputation is critical to us. We will always be available to take care of any problems that might surface over time.
Structural Integrity
We slightly overbuild every home. Our structures are designed to withstand extraordinary occupant, furniture, snow & wind loading. We do not, however, overbuild where it doesn’t make sense. With the high price of building materials, we try to not put any lumber where it is not needed.
Environmental Integrity
This is the one area of construction where we spare no expense. Most people don’t realize that most windows and doors will, over a period of time, leak water into the frame of the building, slowly rotting away the structure. We use a variety of new products such as door pans, flexible flashings, sealants, foams, flat flashings, house wrap, and metal products to protect the house.
Even the best vinyl siding will allow windblown water to penetrate. We have modified our siding techniques over the years to minimize the water infiltration and allow the house to dry out.
Our houses are built as tight as possible to minimize wind and air infiltration. We use a much higher grade caulk than most builders. It adds about a hundred dollars to the total home cost, but saves thousands in the long run.
Attic ventilation is poorly understood by many builders. We understand it very well and build accordingly. A properly constructed roof will have better shingle life and no water or ice problems.
Permanence
Having lived in my home for over 30 years, I’ve come to learn the true cost of sloppy construction and cut corners. My focus in building has always been to construct a home to endure the stresses of nature and human occupancy. We continually evaluate our construction practices and product choices to this end. I’ve yet to meet a builder who is better at this than we are.
Custom Touches
We have the ability, shop facilities, and equipment to fabricate just about any custom built-in woodwork you might desire. Though it is nearly always less expensive to buy cabinets than build them, we excel in the integration of custom woodwork where desired. We prefer to build homes that challenge us.
Fanatical Attention to Detail
Throughout the construction process, from excavation to floor covering, we are on the job every day. Even if our employees are elsewhere, we drop by to visit with the subcontractors, to make sure that everything is done right, and to solve any problems which may arise. Good communication with our clients, suppliers, architects, subcontractors, and crew results in a well-built home with a minimum of cost.
State of the Art
As with computers, cars, and telephones, home building technology is constantly improving. We keep abreast of these advancements with trade journals, national home building conventions, and the internet. This allows us to offer the latest products, techniques, and design features to our clients so that they can count on getting the best home for their money.
Client Involvement
We encourage our clients to be involved in the process of building their home. Some clients like to do the daily cleanup, and others want to participate in the construction. We have never had a problem with this and find it constructive.
